Death in the west

A surreal Western tale floating in memories and mischief

It all began with a simple photo of my nephew Martí, lying carelessly on a vintage sofa in the lobby of the Far West Hotel at PortAventura. But something about that pose—a mix of boredom, attitude, and theatrical flair—sparked an idea: what if this wasn’t just a sofa… but the crime scene of a wild western outlaw?

From that innocent shot, Death in the West was born: a fine art composite filled with fantasy, family, and frontier drama. Martí transforms into a fallen cowboy, complete with a bloodstained shirt, wild rag around his neck, and authentic cowboy boots. The floating rug, table, and wanted poster (featuring another photo of him) elevate the scene—literally—into the clouds of a dreamlike Western limbo.

And there’s more: each of the framed portraits in the background is a cleverly inserted family photograph, digitally aged to blend seamlessly with the old-timey aesthetic. This project became a playful yet loving tribute to both our heritage and the power of imagination. The final touch? A sky full of floating memories, a lamp defying gravity, and a sofa that tells the story of a cowboy who maybe… just maybe… fell asleep while being chased.
